Dragon Heart

In medieval England, Bowen, a gallant dragonslayer, comes upon Draco, the last dragon on Earth (who can talk). In a scheme that keeps Draco alive and earns money for Bowen, the dragon terrorizes a town, and Bowen "kills" him to earn a reward. In the process, the two become close friends. But when King Einon, the evil ruler of the land, goes one step too far, Bowen and Draco -- both of whom have been betrayed by the despot in the past -- set out to defeat him. However, years ago the noble Draco gave half his heart to Einon in order to save the ruler's life. Therefore, if Einon dies, so does Draco. Can Bowen find a way to kill Einon without losing his beloved, fire-breathing partner?

Dragon Heart: A New Beginning

In his last year of life, Bowen returns to the lair where he first laid eyes on Draco. He is given a dragon's egg, we know not by whom. The egg hatches and he entrusts the hatchling to the brothers at a monastery where the young dragon is cared for by Friar Peter. The abbot is concerned; he's aware of a prophecy that warns that a dragon's heart could doom mankind when a two-tailed comet blazes across the night sky. He pledges to keep the young dragon hidden until the passing of the comet. And successfully hidden the dragon remains for twenty years.

Geoff (Christopher Masterson, who plays the oldest of the four brothers on the slightly warped Malcolm in the Middle) is a stable boy at the monastery. He yearns to be a knight, and practices combat with a homemade opponent mounted on a swivel. But all is not well in this ostensibly peaceful kingdom.

Lord Osric (Harry Van Gorkum) has been named chief advisor to a king who seems to have become a bit feebleminded. And Osric may be the very first Fascist. As soon as his appointment becomes official, he directs everyone in the kingdom to don tunics of a style and color that represents their station in life. Failure to wear one's tunic means an immediate seven lashes (and that's for the first offense). Hardly the actions of a nobleman sworn to uphold the Old Code.

Into this oppressive environment come two unusual visitors from the Far East, Master Kwan (Henry O) and his apprentice Lian (Rona Figueroa). Kwan comes from a land where man and dragon lived peacefully for centuries until an evil dragon named Griffin tried to lead a rebellion against the Chinese Imperial City. Despite the defeat of Griffin by virtuous dragons, a fearful emperor had all Eastern Dragons destroyed. Kwan, also aware of the prophecy, has come to this Western kingdom to seek out the dragon that could threaten mankind.

All others are consigned to a life of lower station. In the principal city of Sumdall the Emperor rules from his royal palace, in conjunction with the Council of Mages. The standing imperial army, the Crimson Guard, and their commander, Damodar, enforce the law of the mages throughout the empire.

But it is by the incredible might of the Royal Scepter and its ability to command the immensely powerful Gold Dragons, that the Emperor and his ancestors have forged a mighty empire in the aftermath of the Great War. Record Of Lodoss War--Complete Series

Record Of Lodoss War

Record of Lodoss War is an epic fantasy anime series (Japanese Animation), chronicling the adventures of a party of heroes. Based loosely on the American RPG D&D(tm), a Japanese RPG called "Sword World RPG" came to life, developed by Ryo Mizuno and Group SNE, and became very popular in Japan. Lodoss War was a supplement for Sword World, and consisted of three books -- Lodoss War Companion I, II, and III. A novel series and manga series (comic book) were written and produced, based on the RPG campaign by Group SNE. In 1991, these stories were finally adapted into a 13 part Original Animation Series (OAV) title "The Record of Lodoss War" (or "Lodoss Island War Record", in its literal translation).
The original animation series is based on the novels but much had been changed. The first eight episodes cover the first novel. The last episodes of the OAV cover volumes six and seven of the novel series, but it was seriously altered to compress the series. Many side adventures were cut out from the anime series allowing it to follow the main story thread.

Several years later, another anime series, called the Legend of Crystania, was released. These series takes place in the mystical land of Crystania, located on the southern continent Djana En. The Legend of Crystania is considerably different from Record of Lodoss War, as it takes place 300 years in the future.

Most recently has been released the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, a new Lodoss War series. Chronicles covers the original novels in much greater detail. It begins after OAV episode 8, and ignores the events in OAVs 9-13. Chronicles is a 21 part series, and details the war agaist Marmo and the fight to stop Wagnard from resurrecting the goddess Kardis. However, there are many new characters and the timeline of events is greatly expanded. Lodoss War RPG Eternal Edition will be based upon the new Chronicles timeline.
I highly recommend this cartoon series. Great for anyone that loves Anime and/or Dragons.
